Case Study: Britain’s Manufacturing Technology Centre improves additive manufacturing facility control with COMSOL simulation apps

A Comsol Case Study

Preview of the Britain’s Manufacturing Technology Centre Case Study

Britain’s Manufacturing Technology Centre builds a simulation app with Comsol to avoid £500,000 climate control costs

The Manufacturing Technology Centre (MTC) faced the challenge of managing heat and humidity in its metal powder bed fusion additive manufacturing facility to ensure product quality and worker safety. The MTC partnered with Comsol to address this obstacle, utilizing the Comsol Multiphysics software and its Application Builder to create a predictive simulation model of the factory environment.

Comsol's solution enabled the MTC to develop a simulation app that empowers factory staff to run predictive simulations on their shifts. The app allows workers to input data and test scenarios, such as adjusting ventilation or production schedules, to optimize climate conditions. This has provided a cost-effective alternative to a full climate control system and is a significant step towards the MTC's goal of creating a fully integrated, self-optimizing factory-level digital twin.
