Boost Sales and Build Stronger Relationships with the Deployment of Simulation Apps

GrafTech International (AET/GrafTech) faced a sales bottleneck: proving the thermal, electrical and structural performance of its carbon and graphite products required diverting R&D to rerun complex multiphysics models or run lengthy physical tests, slowing the sales cycle and making it hard to build customer trust. To solve this they worked with Comsol, using COMSOL Multiphysics’ Application Builder and COMSOL Server to put simulation capabilities into the hands of sales engineers and customers.

With Comsol, GrafTech developed the SpreaderCalc app and deployed it via COMSOL Server so non‑experts can run tailored simulations and download results. The apps turned what used to be a week of testing or a single customer model per year into on‑demand modeling—about an hour of an application engineer’s time to run a DoE—helped secure second meetings, increased customer confidence, and are being expanded to new market niches.
