Allergan Aesthetics cuts CoolSculpting treatment time from 60 to 35 minutes with Comsol

Allergan Aesthetics, an AbbVie company, sought to enhance the design and performance of its noninvasive cosmetic procedures, CoolSculpting® and CoolTone®. Their challenge was to optimize the applicators used in these treatments to improve efficacy and reduce procedure times, while ensuring patient safety and comfort during the development process.

Comsol provided its Multiphysics simulation software and Heat Transfer Module, which Allergan Aesthetics used to model heat transfer for CoolSculpting® and electromagnetics for CoolTone®. This solution allowed for virtual testing and optimization of applicator designs, leading to a significant reduction in CoolSculpting® treatment time from 60 to 35 minutes. Comsol's technology also enabled the creation of simulation applications to democratize the findings and support regulatory submissions.
