Royal Bank of Canada, one of the country’s largest banks with about 74,000 employees serving roughly 15 million clients, faced a growing need to ensure new 24/7 electronic channels and applications interfaced reliably with legacy systems. The IT organization needed more efficient test data management and easier access for nontechnical business analysts, who previously struggled to view COBOL-formatted records and required technical help to perform routine data analysis.
RBC standardized on Compuware File‑AID, whose COBOL-layout browse, Compare, Selection Criteria and Cross Reference features — plus integration with Hiperstation — gave analysts direct visibility into files, simplified large-file selection tasks (reducing some searches from hours to minutes), and replaced a less effective vendor tool. The bank realized frequent daily use, improved IT resource utilization, measurable time and cost savings, and faster, more self-sufficient testing and development.
