Comerica Bank, a multistate financial services provider with more than 500 branch, lending and investment offices, depends on a vendor-supplied Comerica Online Documents (COLD) system to archive and retrieve account statements. After moving a year’s worth of statements from tape to disk to improve response times, the IT team still experienced slow retrievals and lacked the tools to locate the performance bottleneck.
By profiling CICS activity with Compuware Strobe, the team pinpointed a single SQL statement that consumed over 60% of CPU. Strobe’s report enabled Comerica to work with the vendor to address the query, yielding more than a 25% reduction in CPU usage and noticeably improved document response times.
