Mecklenburg County - Customer Case Study

Mecklenburg County, North Carolina, a jurisdiction of more than 1 million people and the largest code enforcement authority between New York City and Houston, faced the challenge of managing very high volumes of permits and inspections across a complex, 545-square-mile territory. To modernize operations and support continuous improvement, Mecklenburg County partnered with Computronix and selected the POSSE permitting and inspections system to meet its specific and demanding business requirements.

Computronix implemented POSSE beginning in 2003 and worked with the county to add modules and integrations such as the Meck‑SI paperless special inspections process and Trades Internet Permits, plus performance‑based incentives for contractors and A/E firms. The Computing solution helped Mecklenburg County save 81.5 FTEs (about $8–9 million annually), raise contractor pass rates from 55% to 80%+, lift A/E pass rates to 73%, process over 32% of permits online (~29,000/year), and support more than 3.8 million permits processed to date. Computronix’s ongoing collaboration enabled these measurable efficiency gains.
