KNOC Uses CMG Software for a CO2 Sequestration Feasibility Study

Korea National Oil Company (KNOC) worked with Computer Modelling Group to assess the feasibility of CO2 sequestration in the Ulleung Basin offshore sedimentary basin in the East Sea. The company needed to understand how to maximize aquifer storage while minimizing the risk of CO2 leakage.

Computer Modelling Group provided GEM and CMOST AI to build and optimize a dynamic reservoir simulation model using geological data such as porosity, permeability, net-to-gross ratio, and pinch-out arrays. The analysis identified the optimum injection scenario and the aquifer’s maximum trapped CO2 capacity, helping KNOC increase CO2 storage, reduce leakage risk, and lower GHG intensity.
