A Computer Modelling Group Case Study
The customer, CMG, faced the challenge of running simulations for regulatory approval of a CO₂ storage project using a large, high-resolution aquifer model containing over 52 million grid cells. This explicit modelling approach, while necessary for accuracy, made optimization and uncertainty analysis prohibitively expensive. Computer Modelling Group evaluated methods to reduce this computational complexity.
Computer Modelling Group implemented a solution using their GEM software to reduce simulation run times while preserving the critical accuracy of pressure propagation for regulatory assessments. The result was a reduction in CO₂ storage simulation times by up to 80%, enabling CMG to efficiently support uncertainty analysis and regulatory approval without sacrificing model reliability.
