CEPSA delays limiting GOR by 1 year with Computer Modelling Group

CEPSA, an energy company, faced the challenge of managing high gas production and gas channeling in a mature oil field in northern Africa that was using a miscible Water-Alternating-Gas (WAG) injection strategy. To evaluate a potential solution, CEPSA worked with Computer Modelling Group, utilizing their GEM™ simulation software to conduct a feasibility study on foam injection, a novel application for this specific scenario.

Computer Modelling Group's solution involved a two-stage numerical simulation study using their GEM software. This process incorporated laboratory data to model foam effectiveness, which successfully predicted a reduction in the gas-oil ratio and an increase in oil production. The results indicated that foam injection could delay the onset of a limiting gas production threshold by one year. Computer Modelling Group's support and advanced foam modelling capabilities provided CEPSA with valuable insights, confirming the potential for foam to manage operational challenges and lead to incremental oil production.
