Reimagining the School Media Center of the Future Using Design Thinking to meet today’s education technology challenges

Spartanburg County School District One worked with CompuCom Systems Inc to reimagine its school media centers as the district expanded its 1-to-1 student laptop initiative. Assistant Superintendent Dr. Jimmy Pryor needed a way to make the 10 media centers more relevant, better support teaching and learning, and create an environment that could serve the past, present, and future of education technology.

CompuCom Systems Inc used a Design Thinking workshop and related services to develop the “Media Center of the Future,” including a Spartanburg D1 Portal, Webex Teams-based collaboration, flexible scheduling with Google G Suite, a remote media center self-checkout concept, digital signage, and modern learning spaces such as makerspaces and tech bars. The result was an actionable roadmap that began seeing early adoption quickly, with schools already starting to implement elements of the new physical environment and curriculum support model.
