Mahoning County Career & Technical Center launches high school IT careers with CompTIA and 2 student certifications

The Mahoning County Career & Technical Center (MCCTC) faced a challenge with its IT program, which lacked practical skills and a clear path to employment for its high school students. To address this, instructor Alex Benson redesigned the curriculum around industry-recognized CompTIA certifications, including A+, Network+, and Security+, to provide a direct career pathway.

By implementing a CompTIA-focused solution with CertMaster Learn and extensive hands-on labs, MCCTC created a two-year program that serves as a launchpad for IT careers. The results are significant, with students becoming the first in the school's history to earn CompTIA A+ and Network+ certifications while still in high school. The program provides real-world experience and college credit, successfully moving students from the classroom to credentials and into real IT roles.
