Accessible and Inclusive Training and Assessment in New South Wales

The state of New South Wales (NSW) faced a challenge with its in-person driver knowledge test, which was costly to operate and inaccessible for many residents in remote areas or those from culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) backgrounds or with literacy difficulties. Partnering with Compono and Nexefy, Transport for New South Wales sought to create a digital solution to promote deeper understanding of road rules and ensure full accessibility for all users.

Compono developed the Driver Knowledge Test (DKT) Online, an accessible platform featuring multi-language support, text-to-speech, and WCAG 2.1 AA compliant design. The solution replaced the written exam with an interactive course, leading to over 170,000 enrolments, an 80% completion rate, and 95% user satisfaction. The platform significantly increased pass rates for disadvantaged groups and delivered substantial cost savings and operational efficiency for the client.
