HIPAA for Rural Health Initiatives

The North Country Initiative, a partnership of hospitals, independent physicians, and community providers serving Jefferson, Lewis, and St. Lawrence counties in upstate New York, needed a HIPAA compliance solution that could work across a diverse group of member organizations. Chris Grieco, the CISO at Fort Drum Regional Health Planning Organization, worked with other NCI members to find a rightsized approach for sites spread across three counties.

NCI partnered with Compliancy Group to implement The Guard HIPAA compliance solution at member sites handling protected health information. The Guard gave NCI a single way to monitor compliance across locations, with each satellite site assigned its own Compliance Coach and guidance from Compliancy Group’s HIPAA experts. As a result, NCI is working to Achieve, Illustrate, and Maintain HIPAA compliance across its member sites, with greater confidence that privacy and security requirements for patient data will be met.
