Case Study: Rheinbahn achieves Microsoft license compliance and SAM certification with COMPAREX

Secure compliance for software usage

Rheinbahn AG, one of Germany’s largest public transport providers, needed a clearer view of its Microsoft software licensing and Software Asset Management (SAM) processes to avoid over- or under-licensing and improve compliance. COMPAREX supported the project with a Microsoft license balance and a SAM maturity analysis, using Matrix42 Empirum in the IT environment.

COMPAREX compared purchased licenses with actual software installed and used, identified unused, duplicate, and invalid installations, and assessed Rheinbahn’s SAM processes against Microsoft’s optimization model. The result was a transparent, legally compliant licensing position that met Microsoft SAM certification requirements, giving Rheinbahn a year of audit relief and a stronger basis for ongoing annual true-up and license management.
