Case Study: Porsche Informatik achieves Microsoft license transparency and cost savings with COMPAREX SAM baseline project

License management for greater transparency, cost efficiency and security

Porsche Informatik, part of Porsche Holding Salzburg, needed greater transparency over its large Microsoft license estate to avoid over- and under-licensing, budget waste, and audit risk. To address this, the company engaged COMPAREX for a Microsoft Software Asset Management (SAM) baseline project focused on licensing plausibility.

COMPAREX carried out the project from March to June 2013, comparing commercial purchase records with technical installation data, cleaning and validating the data, and producing a licensing statement. The result was a Microsoft compliance certificate valid for one year, along with a clearer license position, optimized use of Microsoft licenses, cost savings from removing over-licensed areas, and reduced risk of costly re-licensing in an audit.
