SPAR ICS Business Services GmbH, the IT arm of the SPAR retail group (supporting tens of thousands of employees across Austria, Italy and other Central European markets), needed to centralize email archiving and modernize fragmented backup systems. Legal changes and a mix of domains, multiple Exchange forests, disparate backup tools, tape-based processes in Italy and no central backup overview made management complex, error-prone and resource intensive.

SPAR ICS deployed Commvault’s unified platform for email archiving and backup/recovery (policy-based workflows, deduplication, IntelliSnap and NetApp integration) with centralized management and role-based local administration. The rollout centralized 350 TB of data, enabled cross-country replication to Austria, dramatically improved RPO/RTO (reported up to 1500%), cut storage and backup network load by more than 95%, and reduced Italian backup staffing by 75%, while boosting user experience and operational efficiency.
