Case Study: KWS Infra (part of VolkerWessels) achieves scalable, tape-free backups and improved data availability with CommVault Simpana

A Commvault Case Study

Preview of the KWS Case Study

With CommVault Simpana, KWS Infra can rely on maximum data availability and good back-up and replication processes

KWS Infra, part of VolkerWessels, delivers large-scale infrastructure work across the Netherlands and employs ~2,700 people at multiple sites. The company moved from local tape backups and an outsourced Tivoli environment to a centrally managed data centre model, but needed greater transparency, reliability and scalability—plus onsite deduplication, the elimination of tape, archiving/virtualization support and a solution that could be implemented within one month.

Working with NET Services and AnylinQ, KWS implemented CommVault Simpana (later upgraded to Simpana 9) for central backups and replication to a secondary site. The rollout eliminated tape, added deduplication and real‑time monitoring via CommServe, and used a flexible capacity license to scale quickly. Results included improved continuity and transparency, lower backup costs, faster provisioning of new hardware and a future-ready platform for archiving and virtualization.
