A Commvault Case Study
Royal Cornwall’s NHS Trusts—including the Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust and several partner organisations—serve more than 600,000 patients with about 5,000 staff. Cornwall IT Services (160 people) was struggling with rapid data growth, stringent retention rules for patient records and medical images, and a fragmented, time-consuming backup-and-restore environment across 30+ sites that was putting heavy pressure on storage and operations.
Cornwall IT Services deployed Commvault software with capacity licensing and Commvault OnePass to integrate archiving, backup and reporting. The solution centralized data management, moved inactive data to tiered storage, and improved storage utilization and deduplication across a heavily virtualised environment (400+ VMs). As a result, the Trusts gained faster, simpler backups and reporting, reduced network and storage strain, more efficient use of existing capacity while managing some 60 TB of critical data, and quicker recovery and compliance capabilities.
