Pittsburg State University - Customer Case Study

Pittsburg State University (PSU), located in Tornado Alley, faced a serious resilience challenge after nearby tornado damage highlighted the limits of its “standard” backup and aging EqualLogic SANs. PSU needed a distributed, multi-site compute and storage design with real-time replication, automatic failover, and iSCSI/NFS access for Unix/Linux hosts to ensure survivability of critical VMware workloads and protect against hardware failures.

After an RFP and customer reference checks, PSU selected Hedvig’s distributed storage and migrated from BladeCenter/iSCSI to HPE compute with a three-site Hedvig deployment. The solution delivered the required real-time replication, failover and modern features (object storage, backup integrations, container and hybrid/multi‑cloud support), has run reliably since 2018, and PSU reports strong support from Hedvig and a future‑proofed storage environment.
