Orica Standardizes on Global Data Protection, Reduces Costs and Storage Footprint with Commvault Software

Orica, a global chemicals manufacturer and the world’s largest supplier of commercial explosives, supports about 15,000 employees across roughly 100 sites and was managing roughly 200 TB of data that was growing 50–80% annually. The company faced inconsistent regional backup solutions, costly EMC Data Domain deduplication appliances that prevented wide adoption of a global standard, and WAN congestion that slowed backups and recoveries.

Orica standardized on Commvault Simpana software with embedded source/target deduplication and storage-agnostic targets, enabling local backups and eliminating the need for expensive appliances. The change is projected to save up to $600,000 when replacing 40 legacy units, reduce storage footprint and network traffic, accelerate global rollouts, and improve SLAs and disaster recovery (RTOs within 24 hours).
