Optima Italia, a leading Italian digital utility, needed to modern, agile data protection to ensure rapid recovery from cyberattacks or natural disasters and to meet GDPR requirements for securing sensitive customer information. Their legacy backup was slow and complex, and the company wanted off‑site replication and multi‑geography availability without investing in additional infrastructure.

Optima deployed Commvault Backup & Recovery for on‑premise primary backups (SAP, SQL, VMware) and added Metallic Recovery Reserve as an air‑gapped cloud replication target. The integrated solution provided a single vendor/interface for backup, replication and distribution, protected ~180 TB on‑prem with ~70 TB replicated to the cloud, improved RTO and scalability, ensured regulatory compliance, and avoided extra hardware costs.
