A Commvault Case Study
Montgomery County Memorial Hospital (MCMH), a 25‑bed Critical Access Hospital in Red Oak, Iowa, was struggling with an aging IBM TSM backup environment that was unreliable, time‑consuming to manage and ill-equipped to meet CAH, HIPAA and EHR compliance demands. The legacy system caused slow, cumbersome restores, poor VMware/Hyper‑V support, frequent hardware tape failures, and growing risk to roughly 70 TB of clinical, EMR and operational data as the hospital expanded services.
MCMH deployed Commvault’s unified backup and recovery platform with deduplication and integrated virtual server protection, replacing tape workflows and disparate silos with a single code base and intuitive GUI. The result was reliable protection of critical data, dramatically simplified administration (freeing a full‑time resource), faster restores and automated offsite deduplication — enabling new patient‑facing initiatives like a mobile health clinic, participation in a health information exchange and broader population‑health programs.
