Lathrop & Gage Reaches A Verdict On Modern Data Management Using Integrated Snapshot Management In A Virtual Environment

Lathrop & Gage, a long-established U.S. law firm with offices coast to coast, was struggling with an aging, fragmented data-protection environment: tape-based backups across 11 regional sites, three separate backup products, unreliable restores and hung snapshots for virtual servers left IT teams spending roughly 30 hours a week troubleshooting and lacking confidence in recoverability.

The firm consolidated onto Commvault Simpana — a single, capacity‑licensed platform for snapshot management, backup, recovery, deduplication and replication — which replaced disparate point products. The result: administrative overhead fell to about two hours weekly, backups became faster and dependable (synthetic/full cycles in ~18–20 hours), hundreds of VMs are protected seamlessly, 300 TB of data were deduplicated to ~10 TB on the SAN, 30‑day retention is maintained, and the firm saved money while regaining full confidence in restores.
