A Commvault Case Study
IMG is a global sports, entertainment and media company operating in 30 countries with about 1,700 employees across 60 remote sites. Rapid data growth (about 25% annually), a mix of disparate backup systems, long-running Exchange backups, costly outsourced EMEA storage, tape-management headaches and limited restore delegation left IMG struggling to meet retention, recovery and central-management needs.
IMG deployed CommVault Simpana (backup & recovery, deduplication, replication and archive) as a single, centrally managed platform. Deduplication cut the backup footprint from 216 TB to 44 TB (≈80%), enabled hub-to-hub replication and a tape-free approach, and supported archiving for year-plus retention. The change projected >$1M in three-year savings, reduced WAN/storage use, made 95% of restores doable by help-desk staff, and shortened recoveries from days to minutes.
