A Commvault Case Study
F.N.B. Corporation, a regional financial services company with more than 220 branches and rapid growth from mergers and acquisitions, faced escalating data management challenges across a 3,200‑PC environment with 570 servers and over 40 TB of critical data. Growth had produced 13 disparate backup systems, heavy tape reliance, long backup windows (the main SUSE Linux server took 90 hours to back up) and limited scalability for virtualization, disaster recovery and compliance.
F.N.B. implemented an EMC SAN and CommVault Simpana software (backup/recovery, replication and archive with embedded deduplication), consolidating backups into a single platform. The deployment cut the main server backup from 90 to 24 hours and nightly incrementals from 24 to 2 hours, raised backup success rates to over 99%, achieved 83–89% deduplication (roughly 41 TB on 6 TB of disk), reduced tape costs by 60%, extended disk retention from 2 weeks to 30 days, and significantly reduced administrative overhead while improving disaster recovery and long‑term data management.
