Commvault And Azure Co-Author Harpercollins Cloud Story

HarperCollins, one of the world’s largest publishers, faced a move to a new London office with no data centre and a parent company “Cloud First” mandate that required migrating enterprise infrastructure away from an aging SAN. The challenge included meeting business performance needs, avoiding large CAPEX investments, and executing a complex cloud migration while keeping backup and recovery reliable during a steep learning curve for staff.

HarperCollins implemented Commvault for data protection and disaster recovery across Microsoft Azure and on‑premises, using ExpressRoute for secure connectivity and a dual‑site strategy (North Europe primary, West Europe DR). The move modernised and consolidated IT into a manageable OPEX model, preserved the existing Commvault investment, delivered multiple restore and cloud DR options, and achieved significant savings from deduplication (about 77% in the cloud), faster backups/recoveries, and reduced operational overhead.
