City of Everett secures Office 365 data and makes discovery 3X faster

The City of Everett, a full-service municipal government in Washington, faced a growing data and compliance burden after moving to Office 365 and adopting Azure. With more than 4,000 PST files scattered across departments, cumbersome eDiscovery processes that relied on IT, frequent Freedom of Information requests, and staff “change fatigue,” the city needed a data protection and archiving solution that preserved the user experience while meeting service levels and compliance requirements.

Everett re-implemented Commvault Complete Backup & Recovery, added Commvault Activate, and created a tertiary backup site in Azure with support from Commvault Services to maintain continuity for users. The result: eDiscovery became 3–4x faster, sensitive-data governance enabled proactive protection, search workloads shifted to department compliance officers (freeing IT), archived PSTs and mailboxes became indexed and discoverable, and long-term retention moved to Azure to improve disaster recovery and reduce costs while preserving Office 365 user experience.
