Aberdeenshire Council Calls on Commvault for Backup

Aberdeenshire Council, one of Scotland’s largest local authorities by area, supports around 250,000 residents across 300+ sites. As it moved to centralise IT into two data centres and migrate from Lotus Notes to Exchange, Lync and SharePoint, its patchwork of backup tools could not support the new environment, clogged WAN bandwidth, increased operational complexity, and risked non‑compliance with public‑sector cloud and encryption requirements.

The council implemented Commvault Backup and Recovery as a single, integrated platform. Deduplication cut backup traffic and bandwidth use, centralised management reduced operational overhead, and built‑in encryption and offsite write‑to‑recovery addressed compliance—delivering stronger performance, freeing server resources for redeployment or decommissioning, and providing a future‑proof foundation for cloud consolidation.
