Military Archives launches a new archive search platform in 2024 with Communicraft

The Military Archives, the official depository for Irish defence force records, faced the challenge of making its vast historical collections more accessible and less intimidating to a broader public audience. Communicraft was engaged to undertake a user-centered redesign of the MilitaryArchives.ie website to address these usability concerns.

Communicraft implemented a solution that included extensive user research, a redesigned interface with intuitive navigation, and the technical integration of 15 separate sites into a single powerful search application. The result was a transformative user experience, with Phase 1 of the launch in June 2024 receiving overwhelmingly positive feedback. Users reported high satisfaction, increased engagement, and significant time savings, making the archives a more welcoming and productive resource.
