Understanding local aspirations for the West-12 Site in Shepherds Bush

West12 faced a complex redevelopment challenge: the 1970s West-12 site in Shepherds Bush needed significant investment to modernise shops, leisure and housing while protecting two tower blocks of social housing and local character. To ensure inclusive, evidence-based planning and avoid community opposition, West12 used Commonplace’s online planning consultation platform to take engagement into a digital space.

Commonplace designed and ran a targeted Facebook and Instagram campaign directing over 5,000 visitors to the Commonplace project site, generating more than 1,000 comments that surfaced priorities and detailed suggestions. Commonplace’s approach delivered measurable community insight that informed headline design principles and a public exhibition of emerging plans — the high response even led Landsec to close the phase early — demonstrating clear impact on the redevelopment process.
