A Commonplace Case Study
The developer Thornsett, working with the Purley Baptist Church, faced significant community opposition to the height of a proposed mixed-use development, Mosaic Place, on a brownfield site in Purley. To overcome this challenge and build trust, they partnered with the vendor Commonplace to implement its community engagement platform to clearly present the plans and gather resident feedback.
Using the Commonplace platform, Thornsett created a forum for open dialogue, allowing residents to comment on specific design themes and visualize the project. This transparent consultation by Commonplace yielded 5,732 visitors and 609 contributions, leading to fundamental design changes that reflected community desires. The evidence of this strong engagement was critical for Thornsett to subsequently achieve a successful planning application from the council.
