LLDC Safer Spaces in Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park

London Legacy Development Corporation (LLDC) worked with Commonplace and Arup to improve women’s safety across Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. Their challenge was to understand the main reasons people felt unsafe on the site and gather evidence to guide future planning, design, and development decisions.

Commonplace provided a Safe Spaces Safety Heatmap engagement, which stayed open for 11 weeks and collected 542 contributions from 6,840 visitors. The results helped LLDC identify key issues such as poor lighting, harassment, and isolation, and informed actions including a site-wide lighting strategy, alternative routes and exits, and better placement of seating and street furniture.
