How Haringey are involving their residents in climate action

The London Borough of Haringey wanted to place community involvement at the center of its draft Climate Action Plan. The challenge was to gather feedback and ideas from local residents and businesses to help shape a more inclusive strategy to reach net zero carbon by 2041, a task made more difficult as the COVID-19 pandemic prevented traditional in-person engagement events. To overcome this, they turned to the vendor Commonplace.

Commonplace provided an online engagement solution using its Design Feedback tool and a Community Heatmap. This digital approach allowed Haringey to present its plan in accessible segments and collect over 700 public contributions, with 85% of respondents stating climate change needs to be a major priority. The feedback directly informed the final Climate Action Plan, which was unanimously adopted by the council in March 2021, demonstrating the successful use of Commonplace to achieve significant community buy-in.
