A Commit Works Case Study

Preview of the Volcan Case Study

Commit Works Technology and Volcan Start to Ease Bottlenecks at Underground Mines Through a Systems View of Frontline Operations

Volcan, a mining company, required a systemic view of its frontline underground operations at its Chungar mine to improve productivity and reduce bottlenecks. The challenge involved moving away from paper-based systems and traditional spreadsheets to a digital solution, which also necessitated significant change management for employees accustomed to established work methods. They engaged vendor Commit Works to explore using their CiteOps operations software.

Commit Works implemented its CiteOps platform, a process that included upgrading communications infrastructure, establishing a central control room, and extensive change management workshops and training. The solution provided the needed operational visibility and coordinated planning. As a result, equipment release times improved by 10 to 30 minutes on average, adding over 250 hours of monthly mechanical availability. This led to significant utilization rate increases for key equipment, including a 14% rise for jumbos, a 9% increase for simbas, and a 10% boost for bolters.
