Preview of the Keller Independent School District (ISD) Case Study

Texas school district, Keller ISD, receives $1.5 million in revenue – just for paying its bills.

Keller Independent School District (ISD), a large Texas school district, was facing financial challenges common to public education and sought new revenue streams. Their challenge was to find an efficient way to generate additional funding without increasing costs. Keller ISD partnered with vendor Commerce Bancshares to implement its electronic payment system, which utilizes single-use credit cards for accounts payable.

Commerce Bancshares automated the district's accounts payable process, enrolling suppliers to accept electronic payments and even creating special workarounds for utilities and other exceptions. The solution required minimal effort from Keller ISD. The results were significant, generating over $1.5 million in revenue share for the district's general fund, averaging $250,000 annually. This provided a substantial new income source used for day-to-day expenses and allowed the district to receive products faster from suppliers.
