Ripley’s Aquarium of the Smokies in Gatlinburg, TN, faced the challenge of driving family attendance in a highly competitive tourism market, made tougher by a lingering economy. To help generate excitement and bring more visitors through the door, Ripley’s Aquarium partnered with Comcast Spotlight and used a multi-screen marketing approach.
Comcast Spotlight extended the aquarium’s TV commercials online with in-banner video advertising on XFINITY.com and helped create traffic-driving appearances by SpongeBob SquarePants and Dora the Explorer. The campaign delivered strong results, with Ripley’s Aquarium seeing a 25% year-over-year increase in attendance, and families attending the character events spending the day at the aquarium.
