A Comcast Business Case Study
Township High School District 214, the second-largest high school district in Illinois with over 12,000 students, faced the challenge of stretching limited education dollars while continuing to expand digital learning during a state budget shortfall. The district needed a scalable, reliable IT infrastructure to support growing classroom technology and to qualify for critical funding while keeping operating costs under control.
Comcast Metro Ethernet, integrated with the IlliniCloud shared services, provided a high-capacity backbone that enabled server virtualization, district‑wide VoIP, IP video in classrooms, online enrollment and robust disaster-recovery capabilities. The result was a reliable network supporting thousands of devices (6,200+ computers, 1,300 VoIP phones, 850 iPads), significant cost savings—including cutting 75 physical servers to seven (saving $330,000 in hardware and $45,000 in energy), $400,000/year from VoIP and $125,000/year from online registration—42% E‑Rate funding, and recognition as a Top Ten Technology School District.
