Cooper University Health Care Advances Digital Health Services with Comcast Business Ethernet

Cooper University Health Care, a 127‑year‑old New Jersey health system with more than 5,700 employees, 751 physicians and over 500,000 patients across 50+ locations, faced a legacy WAN of T1s and mixed broadband that couldn’t support its move to Electronic Medical Records. Frequent downtime disrupted access to patient data, slow downloads of large radiology images delayed diagnoses, and IT staff spent excessive time troubleshooting connectivity instead of supporting new digital initiatives.

Comcast Business deployed a high‑performance WAN using Ethernet Network Service, Ethernet Virtual Private Line, Dedicated Internet and Ethernet @Home—connecting 43 sites with primary and backup links (up to 600 Mbps), a 1 Gbps EVPL at the main campus, a 200 Mbps dedicated Internet connection, and 6 Mbps home links for radiologists. The new network delivered reliable EMR access, faster image review, and enabled videoconferencing, telemedicine and distance learning, freed IT to focus on strategic work, and earned Cooper a MEF Best Application of the Year in Health award.
