City Connects 30 Sites for Data, Video, and Internet; Improves Service to Residents

The City of Hollywood, Florida — a Miami‑Fort Lauderdale area municipality serving over 140,000 residents — needed to replace a slow, T1‑based communications system that limited access to applications, streaming video, and secure data exchange. The challenge was to reliably and securely connect 30 city sites (police, fire, public works, city hall, recreation centers, etc.), provide much greater bandwidth for video and Internet, and support future growth without the high cost of building and maintaining a private network.

The city deployed Comcast Business Ethernet Network Service and Comcast Business Ethernet Dedicated Internet to link 30 locations with up to 1 Gbps performance, secure data/video transfer, and scalable Internet access. The new network sped up application access, enabled video training and a document management program that saves about $70,000 annually in paper handling, reduced telecom expenses via four‑digit dialing, and delivered the reliability and easy scalability the city needs to add sites and improve service to residents.
