Realising new value and aligning mindsets ahead of an ERP project

Weetabix, a leading UK breakfast cereal manufacturer, faced the challenge of migrating its end-of-life Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 system to Dynamics 365. Initially planning a simple "lift and shift" technical upgrade, the company engaged its long-standing partner Columbus to conduct a Microsoft Advanced Migration Assessment. Weetabix sought to use the re-implementation as an opportunity to realign its business processes, improve stakeholder engagement, and identify new sources of value beyond the previous system's limitations.

Columbus implemented its Value First approach, conducting 14 workshops with nearly 80 participants to help Weetabix envision new value and build a strategic roadmap. The solution involved top-level envisioning sessions with senior management and the executive team to align priorities and quantify potential benefits. This process allowed Weetabix to understand the financial value, required resources, and potential ROI of the project, shifting the focus from a mere IT upgrade to a business-led transformation. As a result, Weetabix achieved strong company-wide engagement and built a clear value proposition focused on business outcomes rather than technology alone.
