Case Study: Berlinale achieves seamless digital film delivery with Colt Technology Services

Colt supports unique digital workflow

Berlinale, the Berlin International Film Festival, needed a reliable way to transmit digitized films to cinemas across Berlin during a fast-moving 10-day event with thousands of screenings. Using Colt Technology Services and its Colt IQ Network, along with high-bandwidth Ethernet and IP On Demand services, Berlinale replaced slower physical delivery methods with a flexible digital workflow.

Colt Technology Services implemented scalable Ethernet and IP services, upgraded five venues with SDN capability, and provided a 10Gbps internet connection and central data-center support. The result was major operational efficiency: around one petabyte of film data is transmitted during the festival, five to ten films can be uploaded simultaneously, and a 100–200GB package can move from Hollywood to Berlin in about 30 minutes, improving speed, logistics, and reliability for festival screenings.
