Case Study: Toronto Internet Exchange achieves 145+ Gbps growth, lower network costs and faster peering with Cologix

A Cologix Case Study

Preview of the Toronto Internet Exchange Case Study

The Toronto Internet Exchange (TorIX) is the largest IX in Canada with more than 175 peering participants benefiting from lower network costs & faster speeds

The Toronto Internet Exchange (TorIX) is Canada’s largest Internet exchange, serving as a neutral peering point to help members lower network costs and speed up local traffic. TorIX needed a central, carrier-hotel location with high-capacity, network-neutral infrastructure to scale its peering fabric and keep Canadian traffic local; it deployed inside Cologix’s data centre colocation at 151 Front Street (Cologix’s direct on‑ramp) to meet those needs.

Cologix provided TorIX with space and on‑ramps in its 151 Front Street carrier hotel, giving the exchange the capacity and neutrality required to grow. As a result—thanks to Cologix—TorIX now supports 175+ peering participants, has exceeded 145 Gbps peak traffic (with averages around 90 Gbps), reduces transit times and hops for members, and retains local traffic for improved performance and privacy, attracting major participants such as Microsoft, Google and the CBC.
