Freddie Mac, a major housing finance organization, needed a better way to manage its rapidly growing, multi-generational data ecosystem and make data easier for thousands of users to find and trust. The company had been relying on spreadsheets for business glossary management and faced challenges around data governance, stewardship, lineage, and consistent access across legacy systems, warehouses, Hadoop, and cloud initiatives.

With Collibra, Freddie Mac built a central “one-stop shop” for data, using Collibra’s data governance, business glossary, data catalog, and workflow capabilities as the front end for its cloud onboarding and data lake hydration process. Collibra was integrated with data quality processes and access management tools like Okera, helping Freddie Mac improve collaboration, accelerate modernization, and provide a universal business view of technical metadata, data quality, controls, and lineage; more than 2,000 data users now have access to the business glossary.
