A Coho Data Case Study
The University of British Columbia (UBC) runs one of Canada’s largest VMware environments—over 4,000 VMs and more than 8 PB of storage—and was facing a critical performance bottleneck as its legacy storage architecture failed to scale for mission‑critical workloads such as Oracle Database 11g. Growing capacity also increased management complexity with multiple storage “islands” and limited clustering performance from their existing arrays.
UBC deployed the Coho DataStream 1000h, a flash‑tuned scale‑out storage platform offering a single global namespace and unified management pane, with storage operations offloaded via vSphere APIs. The solution delivered predictable, scalable IOPS for Oracle workloads, simplified administration, and a reported 65% lower $/iOPS compared to their prior storage solution.
