WestLotto reduces backup and recovery times by up to 98% with Cohesity’s hyperconverged secondary storage system

WestLotto, Germany’s largest lottery provider with 350 staff supporting 3,300 sales outlets and an online platform, faced growing challenges from a legacy VM backup system: rising licensing and maintenance costs, long recovery windows for mission‑critical systems, strict privacy requirements for sensitive data, and a need to rapidly provision complex environments for testing and development.

After a proof-of-concept with Computacenter, WestLotto deployed Cohesity (four C2500 nodes per data center with DataProtect and DataPlatform). The new solution cut recovery time for a gaming transaction server from over 24 hours to about 15 minutes (up to 98% faster), reduced daily backup data from several terabytes to under 100 GB through deduplication, enabled instant cloning for faster test/dev cycles, and delivered scalable, pay-as-you-grow economics and improved security.
