A Cohesity Case Study
Vocus New Zealand, a carrier-grade telecommunications and IT services provider, operates three data centres and supports hundreds of network points of presence across Australia and New Zealand. Rapid growth through mergers and a surge in telemetry and video data strained legacy platforms and backups: existing cloud backups were costly, slow to restore, and lacked cloud-native functionality. Vocus needed a scalable, flexible disaster-recovery and long-term retention solution that could move large datasets to lower-cost storage, speed VM restores, and reduce cloud storage OpEx through smart deduplication and compression.
Working with partner BEarena, Vocus ran a Cohesity Proof-of-Concept and deployed Cohesity DataPlatform and DataProtect into production. Cohesity delivered deduplication and compression across cloud backup sets, cut backup windows from 10–12 hours to about two hours (over 80% faster), and reduced storage costs in AWS S3. The platform also serves NFS storage, integrates with single sign-on, provides encryption at rest, and offers data-analysis capabilities—yielding immediate OpEx savings, faster restores, and improved security and operational efficiency.
