A Cohesity Case Study
Suffolk County Council (SCC), the administrative authority for Suffolk, England, supports services across six sites with a 30-person IT team responsible for networks, servers, cloud infrastructure, data centre management and backups. The team struggled to complete full backups within available windows, leaving some data unprotected and creating risk and stress around restores; a wider infrastructure refresh and cloud migration plan prompted priorities to shrink data centre footprints, modernize data protection, cut operational costs, and improve recoverability.
Cohesity deployed DataProtect and SmartFiles across two-site Cohesity clusters (supporting Microsoft SQL, Oracle, VMware and Nutanix workloads) with an all‑flash architecture and immutable backups for ransomware protection. The implementation (completed in four months) enabled reliable full NAS backups, faster file access, and an interim file‑share solution while future-proofing cloud migration. SCC achieved operational time savings of more than 87%, data recovery times decreased by over 80%, immediate cost reductions and a total annual saving of £80,000.
