Shumaker, Loop & Kendrick, LLP is a full‑service law firm with roughly 500 employees across seven offices that was struggling with fragmented, costly legacy backup infrastructure. Without change block tracking and with multiple point solutions, backups and recoveries were slow and cumbersome (VM recoveries could take up to two days and some Exchange backups ran as long as 32 hours), replication required dedicated circuits, and licensing tied to peak usage drove over‑provisioning.

Shumaker consolidated to Cohesity’s web‑scale DataPlatform (DataProtect and Virtual Edition) for backup, long‑term retention, cloud archiving and future scale‑out NAS. The move cut backup and replication times by more than 90% (Exchange backups reduced from ~32 hours to minutes), consolidated three platforms into one, achieved over 150x data reduction (15 PiB to ~97 TiB), simplified restores with global search, enabled policy‑based SLAs and AWS retention, and delivered significant CapEx/OpEx savings while freeing IT resources.
