Pilot Thomas Logistics Reclaims 780 IT Hours Per Year by Moving File and Object, Backup and Cloud Archiving to Cohesity

Pilot Thomas Logistics, a Fort Worth–based energy logistics provider, faced a failing, overworked NAS environment that housed 230+ shares and demanded specialized, time-consuming management. After IT was reorganized into generalist roles, constant alerts and complex backups became a liability; the team needed lower cost storage with SQL performance, cloud archival capability, minimal migration downtime and an easy-to-use solution.

Working with SHI, Pilot replaced its legacy NAS with Cohesity SmartFiles and consolidated file services, backup and cloud archiving (to Google Cloud). A seamless one-evening migration of ~50 TB and ~100 SQL targets yielded near-zero downtime, enabled self-service restores, eliminated tape, and cut backup windows from days to hours. The change reclaimed about 780 IT hours per year, saved roughly $72,000 annually plus reduced data center footprint and energy costs, and delivered payback in three to nine months.
