Mother Lode Holding Company Transforms Operations for Data Management with Cohesity and Microsoft Azure

Mother Lode Holding Company (MLHC) is a nationwide title insurance and settlement services provider supporting more than 1,200 employees across multiple brands. Faced with aging backup systems (IBM and Veritas NetBackup) and exploding volumes of small, long‑retained files, MLHC struggled with backups that couldn’t complete, slow and cumbersome restores, and rising storage costs—prompting a need for simpler management, granular recovery, and cloud tiering for cost savings and disaster recovery.

After a successful proof-of-concept, MLHC implemented Cohesity (with Microsoft Azure and VMware) to replace NetBackup for raw file storage and protect 175 TB of SMB/CIFS data and their VMware environment. Cohesity simplified management and search, enabled cloud tiering and rapid DR (a 200 TB VM was staged in Azure in under 15 minutes), and delivered measurable gains: 75% faster Exchange backups, more than 20x deduplication/compression, restore times reduced by over 98%, and up to 40% lower TCO over three years while improving RPO/RTO and shrinking the physical storage footprint.
